Importance of antioxidants | Super Facialist

Now, more than ever before, we’re fully conscious of the damaging effects of free radicals and environmental aggressors (e.g. pollution and UV rays) on our skin… so how can we make sure that our skincare products are effectively protecting us from these external (uncontrollable) factors?

In this article we will be discussing the importance of antioxidants and why we are striving to create the most efficacious, affordable products on the market, packed with antioxidant-rich ingredients to keep your skin in optimum condition.

Read on to discover some of our favourite antioxidant ingredients, how they work and which products we have featured them in.

Ferulic Acid

This ingredient provides antioxidant benefits, helping to prevent the production of free radicals. Studies show that it can also help to boost the effects of other antioxidants.

Included in our Vitamin C+ Micro Polish Wash and Vitamin C+ Daily Moisturiser

Grapeseed Oil

This naturally obtained vegetable oil (sourced from the ripe Vitis Vinifera seed) has moisturising properties. Grapeseed is rich in proanthocyanidins, which are antioxidant rich, and is therefore recognised for tackling free radical damage.

Ideal for a selection of skin types, so we featured it in our Vitamin C+ Cleansing Oil, Salicylic Acid Face Scrub and Hyaluronic Acid Eye Cream

Hibiscus Extract

This natural extract is rich in antioxidants and capable of conditioning the skin, while boosting brightness.

Included in the entire (core) Hyaluronic Acid Firming range

Licorice Extract

Extracted from antioxidant-rich licorice roots, this ingredient is renowned for its soothing, anti-irritant, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Added to our Vitamin C+ Daily Moisturiser, Vitamin C+ Night Cream and Vitamin C+ Eye Cream

This multi-purpose antioxidant ingredient (otherwise referred to as Vitamin B3) helps to reduce the appearance of acne and improve skin tone, while moisturising and soothing sensitive skin.

Featured across the entire Anti-Blemish range to support our key ingredient, Salicylic Acid

Vitamin A/Retinol

This anti-ageing, antioxidant ingredient is widely used in anti-ageing products to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, helping to improve skin firmness and smoothness.

In its pure form, Retinol can be found in our Restoring Serum and Booster

Vitamin C

A potent antioxidant with brightening capabilities, recognised for neutralising free radicals.

Try our new Brighten Booster, which includes 1% Vitamin C

Vitamin E

One of the most powerful antioxidants (commonly featured in oil-based skincare products) which helps to further protect the skin. Vitamin E naturally appears within the skin, so is vital to keep skin youthful and plump.

Find it in our Vitamin C+ Cleansing Oil and Rose Facial Oil

White Tea Leaf Extract

This antioxidant extract is widely recognised for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Included in our Retinol Day Cream, Retinol Night Cream and Retinol Serum

A multi-functional ingredient reported to have antioxidant properties. Helps to improve micro-circulation, while reducing puffiness and dark circles under the eyes.

We added it to our Vitamin C+ Eye Cream and Hyaluronic Acid Eye Cream to give the under-eyes an extra boost
