Ageing is a natural process, but taking care of your skin can help you maintain a healthy and radiant appearance for that much longer. Charlotte Connoley, a renowned skincare expert and professional facialist with over 15 years' experience, shares her top anti-ageing skincare tips to help keep your skin looking its best.

From double cleansing to incorporating retinol, here are her top skincare practices to follow:

Double Cleansing

Ensuring your skin is completely free of dirt, makeup, and SPF before adding your next layers of skincare is crucial. Charlotte’s favourite method to achieve this is double cleansing.

What is double cleansing? Double Cleansing is when you cleanse the skin twice, first with an oil-based cleanser, then with a water- or surfactant-based cleanser.

    • First Cleanse: “Using the Rosehip Meltaway Cleansing Balm as a first cleanse in the evening will not only ensure that dirt, SPF and make up are removed efficiently from the skin, but also provide hydration and nourishment to the skin. The balm’s richer, buttery texture is perfect for older and dryer skin types. The rosehip will also help calm the skin and any sensitivity,” says Charlotte
    • Second Cleanse: Follow up with a regular, gentle cleanser to remove any residue and reveal a clean, healthy glow. If you’re looking for some gentle exfoliation in your second cleanse, you can also use a cleanser/exfoliator hybrid like our Vitamin C+ Gentle Daily Micro Polish Wash. The biodegradable scrubbing particles lightly buff away dead skin cells, reinvigorating the skin and revealing a healthier-looking complexion.

Incorporate Retinol into Your Nighttime Routine

Retinol is a powerful ingredient that can help target visible signs of ageing by promoting skin cell turnover.

Benefits of regular retinol use overtime:

    • Helps reduce the appearance of lines & wrinkles
    • Helps to improve your skin's texture
    • Helps to improve your skin’s tone.
    • Helps fade age spots

When should I start using Retinol? Generally speaking, it’s best to start incorporating Retinol in your mid 20’s to early 30’s, however, it depends on your skin type and personal preferences. Always introduce Retinol gradually into your routine to avoid sensitivity and irritation – starting with once a week and building up over time to more frequent application.

Keep Your Skin Hydrated and Nourished

“Keeping the skin hydrated and nourished at all times is a great way to keep skin from ageing…this means keeping hydrated from inside out too!”

Nighttime Routine: Use plenty of oils, such as a Rosehip Facial Oil, and night creams before bed. These products help maintain the skin's moisture barrier, keeping it soft and supple.

Daytime Routine: Incorporate a hydrating serum and a moisturising day cream can help prevent dryness and keep your skin feeling and looking more plumped with hydration. Our Vegan Collagen range is ideal for enhancing skin hydration while helping target fine lines & wrinkles.

Whatever products you choose, remember that proper hydration is crucial for various bodily functions, including skin health. Drinking at least 2.7L of water per day (about 9 glasses) can help maintain healthy, glowing skin by keeping your body hydrated.

    Always Wear SPF

Sun protection is one of the most important steps in any skincare routine, no matter your age. External factors like sun and pollution are major accelerators of skin ageing, alongside smoking. Wearing a high-factor SPF every day (even on cloudy days) helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays and environmental damage.

Facial Massage for Plump, Youthful Skin

Facial massage is an often-overlooked step that can have significant benefits for maintaining youthful looking skin.

Begin by applying a serum followed by an oil before bed. Gently massage your face to encourage blood flow to the skin's surface. This can help stimulate collagen production, essential for keeping the skin looking plump and firm. Facial massage also promotes lymphatic drainage which helps detoxify and reduce puffiness.

Remember, consistency is key in skincare — regularly following these steps will help deliver your best skin results over time. Stay hydrated, protected, and pampered for healthy and glowing skin no matter your age.
